An Educational Experience Betweens Teens and Adults Photos from “Teens speak out in the park: An educational experience between teens and adults – Ask the questions you’ve always wanted to ask”, at the Lions Shelter in Fancher- Davidge Park on August 11, 2011. A lively discussion among middle school students, high school students, parents and professionals was facilitated by Jerome Christie of Cornell Cooperative Extension. 52 individuals participated. Dr. Katharine Roberts, Middletown Cares Project Evaluator, presented the latest trends in alcohol use among youth in Middletown. Sgt. Neil Kassel of the Middletown Police Department informed community members about the responsibilities and liabilities for parents when teens drink in their homes. “Play for Change”, a group a group of high school students that writes and acts short plays of social significance, presented a play about a 16-year old girl who persuades her parents to allow a small group of friends into their basement to celebrate her 16th birthday, with unexpected and disastrous results. The play was written by 10th grader, Kevin Guzman, in collaboration with Darren M. Blot, Danielle Wade, Tara Davis, Mary Lynn DeJesus, and Jourdan Taylor. The play was nurtured and supported by the Middletown Cares Coalition, Maternal Infant Services Network and YEAH.
